Early Life
Sofia Levin was born on 8 September 1989 in Melbourne, Victoria, in the southeastern Australia. She grew up culturally Jewish in multicultural Melbourne.
Her father, Greg, works as an aerial photographer, and her mother, Abby, is a talented swing dancer. She has two brothers, Lucas and Max.
The food critic became interested in food and travel journalism as a child after her 19th birthday. She had stared into the unblinking eyes of a decapitated goat at a night market in Morocco.
Education
Food Journalist Sofia Levin attended primary and high school in Kew. She studied journalism at Monash University and has an extensive background in food writing.
Career
Sofia Levin is a celebrated Melbourne-based journalist and host and has been a food writer since 2013. She has written for many publications, including Broadsheet, Lonely Planet, the Guardian, and The Age.
Broadsheet had Sofia Levin on their podcast in April 2024. Some articles she has written for Broadsheet include Is Burrata Actually Boring? and A Love Letter to Melbourne.
In March 2021, Sofia started a website and newsletter titled The Season Traveller to celebrate cultural diversity through food. She also encourages readers to #eatcuriously through her platform.
Sofia has transitioned her passion for food from text to the screen. She has made several television appearances with a presence on Postcards and The Cook Up with Adam Liaw and in a few Broadsheet videos.
In 2024, Sofia Levin joined the judging panel of MasterChef Australia. Season one of Masterchef Australia aired the same year she began writing about food.
Sofia Levin, who was named Luke Mangan’s Chief Experience Officer, joined him to travel the world and taste varieties of food. She has starred in video campaigns in Australia and at the global level and has been the guest host of various travel and cooking shows.
The seasoned food journalist has reviewed restaurants on national radio.
Apart from her success with food, Sofia has an Instagram-famous red toy poodle, Jinkee, which is twice as famous as her.
Personal Life
Food critic Sofia Levin tied the knot with pizza shop owner Matt John. The duo got engaged in 2016 in a romantic proposal atop the Pyramid of the Sun in Mexico, married in Lombok, and celebrated their wedding in September 2017. However, the couple has since parted ways
Earlier, Sofia was romantically linked to presenter Karl Stefanovic. However, she debunked any speculation surrounding a potential romance. They met in September 2016 after she appeared on the TV show Today.
Karl and Sofia became friends and enjoyed many outings together. Together, they graced a party at James Packer’s Bondi Beach apartment, arriving in Karl Mercedes. Her friendship with the single TV host Karl Stefanovic thrust her into the spotlight.
In 2024, Sofia Levin is rumored to be dating hunky wine importer Will Dyer. She appears to have enjoyed several romantic dates with the La Carta Wine owner. In September 2024, she posted a picture of them on what looked like a dinner date in Paris.
Her father, Greg, passed away in July 2024 at age 65 after a 30-month battle with motor neuron disease. He was diagnosed in early January 2022.
